Customs Compliance Manager

Hours: 9am-6pm, Monday to Friday, with additional flexibility required in line with operational needs. Due to location own car is required.

A leading global logistics company is seeking an experienced Customs Clearance Manager to lead a high-volume customs function in Dublin. This is a senior operational and people leadership role overseeing a large team processing more than 100,000 customs declarations annually. You will act as a key escalation point, ensuring compliant, efficient customs operations while building strong links with authorities and internal stakeholders across Ireland and the UK.

Role Overview

You will manage the day-to-day performance of the customs declarations function, supporting both centralised and regional teams. The focus is on compliance, process improvement, team development, and strong engagement with customs authorities and customers.

You will also contribute to systems development, training programmes, and continuous operational improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the declarations team with technical customs queries through applied knowledge and research
  • Ensure compliant customs processes are implemented and consistently followed
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with customs authorities across multiple regions
  • Anticipate risks and delays, introduce practical solutions, and keep stakeholders informed
  • Drive continuous improvement and training across the customs function
  • Develop, analyse and present KPIs to highlight trends and improvement areas
  • Work with customs operational teams in Ireland and the UK to improve processes and workflows
  • Support brokerage growth through structured processes and procedures
  • Assist with system testing, rollouts and user training
  • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure business-wide implementation
  • Provide leadership support and deputise for the Brokerage & Compliance Manager when required
  • Advise customers on import and export requirements
  • Attend customer meetings and reviews on customs matters

Team Leadership Duties

  • Manage team performance through team leads and supervisors
  • Oversee rosters, leave and absence management
  • Identify and schedule training, ensuring proper sign-off and record keeping
  • Track output and performance data, producing practical management reports
  • Work with process improvement teams to streamline workflows and data handling
  • Partner with HR on recruitment, development and performance matters
  • Conduct probation reviews, performance appraisals and KPI setting
  • Lead onboarding and integration of new hires

Skills and Experience Required

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience managing teams
  • Strong people leadership and delegation ability
  • Detailed knowledge of customs clearance requirements and procedures
  • Experience with customs systems and query resolution
  • Solid understanding of freight forwarding and supply chains
  • Clear communicator with strong interpersonal skills
  • Organised, deadline-driven and detail focused
  • Practical, accountable and solution oriented
  • Comfortable operating in a high-volume, time-sensitive environment
  • Collaborative approach to operational problem solving
